Five Questions With Revival Body Care Founder Nicole Dzurko

Passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and frustrated by the lack of high-quality, chemical-free beauty products on the market, Nicole Dzurko set sights on making her own. Revival Body Care, which began in 2015 as a small operation in her home kitchen, has quickly morphed into a thriving local and ecommerce business offering a comprehensive collection of skin, lip and hair care products that are not only great for consumers, but for the environment too.

Nicole is also a part of JumpStart’s Core City: Cleveland Impact Program, an intensive business assistance program designed to support the development and growth of businesses located within Cleveland’s core neighborhoods.

We had an opportunity to chat with Nicole about the inspiration behind her business, her biggest takeaway from the Impact Program and what she would tell fellow entrepreneurs who are seeking resources to grow their businesses.

What inspired you to create Revival Body Care, where did the idea come from?
I’m a mom of three and we try to eat really clean, organic, non-GMO foods. As I was researching the products we were using in our household as well as on our bodies, I was finding that the ingredients were a little concerning, so I decided to start making the same products myself. At first, I gave them as gifts to friends and family during the holidays, and I received a really great response, so I kind of rolled with it.

After three years, we now have a fully comprehensive line of skin, lip and haircare products, each gentle yet effective on the skin, without the use of toxic chemicals and unnecessary ingredients that don’t really serve a purpose.

What separates Revival from your competition?
Beyond having great products, I’ve built a tribe called the Revival Tribe. My goal with this is to educate, empower and encourage my customer base to share their knowledge of wellness, green beauty and the importance of self-care with their friends and family. I feel like we can start a movement with the education that I provide.

What have been some of your biggest takeaways from the Core City: Cleveland Impact Program? Any surprises?
It has been the most incredible experience. I think as an entrepreneur, we’re so focused on the day-to-day that it’s often challenging to take time away from that and focus on all the intricate parts of building a business. This program has really forced me to take time to do the research, to get all my financials in order, really hone in on my target market and have a plan in place to grow.

JumpStart as a whole has been so incredibly supportive, and they have resources for businesses at every stage across the spectrum. They are so willing to help and it’s just amazing to know that there is an organization here in Cleveland that is focused on helping entrepreneurs grow.

Also, being surrounded by other entrepreneurs in the same boat has been an awesome experience, because sometimes, being an entrepreneur can be a little bit of a lonely process. It’s nice to know there are other individuals experiencing the same things.

What advice would you give other entrepreneurs who need help and are considering reaching out to the Core City team?
Do it sooner rather than later. I know that I’ll carry the information that I’ve gathered and the skills that I’ve learned throughout the course of my entrepreneurial career. Being a one-woman show right now has allowed me to learn all the ins and outs, making me feel more comfortable bringing on staff.

What are your future plans for your business?
By the end of this year, I hope to purchase a couple pieces of machinery to help facilitate the production process and to free me up to market and grow the business, which in turn means I am going to be bringing on some staff to help with production. I’m really looking forward to the growth that we have projected!
