In 2006, David and his friend Michael Recker founded Wireless Environment, an innovative wireless LED lighting company. At that time, LED lighting was new to the market and David & Michael set out to innovate and create intellectual property that would differentiate their company and set them up as an attractive target for future acquisition.

Wireless Environment served as the parent company to the Mr. Beams brand of consumer LED lighting products, which quickly rose as a top seller on Amazon. By repeatedly introducing smart lighting systems and useful new products with attractive design appeal, David and Michael grew market share and drove high growth of their business year after year for more than a decade. Deemed “the best battery-powered light to install in a closet” by The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Beams products moved into national retail stores and international online distributors, as well.

In late 2017, the company was acquired by smart doorbell and home security company Ring to further advance its goal of increasing neighborhood security. Although Mr. Beams products were a great addition to the Ring product line, it was the early innovation & IP created by David and Michael that made this a strategic acquisition target for Ring in an already highly competitive market. And in early 2018, Ring (and Ring-Beams) was acquired by Amazon because of this type of innovation. Anyone who invested in David’s company is glad they did!
