5 Questions With Mondie Gonzales of Escape In 60

Inspired by her friends’ love of escape rooms, Mondie Gonzales’s Escape in 60 Cleveland offers thrill-seekers five fully immersive and unique escape room experiences as well as event planning services and customizable events.

We caught up with Mondie to learn more about her and her business as she readies to present in the culminating showcase of our summer 2021 Small Business Impact Program cohort.

What motivated you to apply for the Impact Program?

I took JumpStart’s Financial Projections workshop at the beginning of 2020 and it was extremely helpful. When I heard about the Impact Program, I thought it would be a great way to improve our business skills and possibly win $10,000.

What were your goals or something that you were hoping to learn?

I am a mental health therapist by training, so I’m learning business skills as I go. I was hoping to improve my financial planning, booking and marketing knowledge.

What is something that the Impact Program taught you about your business or entrepreneurship in general?

The importance of financial planning and how it can help you grow a business. I had never really thought about how financial projections and planning for growth fit together. I now feel equipped to make sound financial decisions about how and when to plan for growth.

What was your favorite or most enjoyable part of your time in the program?

Meeting and collaborating with all of the other entrepreneurs. I expected a much more competitive feel with my classmates because of the prize at the end, but everyone is so supportive and encouraging. It’s been an amazing experience!

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Be willing to take advice and let go of ideas. It’s so important to be flexible and listen to your mentors. Be willing to take risks and try new things. Most importantly, know your worth. Don’t undervalue what you have to offer.
