Starting in 2012, the hospital’s department of obstetrics will recommend measuring the cervical length of expectant mothers midway through their pregnancies using an ultrasound....

 

Andie O’Brien, a spokeswoman for CerviLenz, the Chagrin Falls, Ohio, company that makes a tool to measure a pregnant woman’s cervical length without the use of an ultrasound, praised Jefferson’s efforts to recognize and treat women with short cervixes -- the best predictor for premature birth....
