Doug Weintraub, CPA 
Board Chairperson, JumpStart 
Serial Entrepreneur

Doug WeintraubMr. Weintraub is an active angel investor and serial entrepreneur involved with ventures in the software and professional services spaces as well as residential and commercial real estate developments. Most recently, he was Managing Director of Socius, a company he founded in 1986. In 1999, 2000 and 2001, Mr. Weintraub was recognized as one of Accounting Today’s Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting and Socius was recognized as a Technology Pacesetter by the magazine from 1998 through 2005. Prior to Socius, Mr. Weintraub was President and CEO of Centerprise Information Advisors, formerly Brunswick Integrated Computer Solution. He started his professional career as a computer consultant and accountant at Coopers & Lybrand.  Mr. Weintraub is a founding member of the North Coast Angel Fund and Akron-based MW Development. He served on the board of MAGNET (formerly CAMP) from 2002 to 2005 and currently serves on The President's Club Advisory Board of The Ohio State University and on the boards of North Coast Community Homes, Innovative Process Administration, LLC, Vox Mobile, LLC and JumpStart. Mr. Weintraub has served on JumpStart's board since the organization's inception, first as treasurer (2004 to 2006), then vice chair and treasurer (2006 to 2009) and currently as chairperson. Mr. Weintraub received a bachelor's in Business Administration focused on accounting and computer science from The Ohio State University.

Mark J. Williams 
Vice Chairperson, JumpStart
Director of Strategy, KeyCorp 

Mark Williams

Mr. Williams is the Director of Corporate Strategy at KeyCorp. There, he leads Key's strategic planning process including implemention of the strategic plan, competitive landscape analysis, and managing the company's strategic planning framework and processes. He was previously Executive Vice President in PNC’s Corporate and Institutional Bank where he leads the International business and the Shareholder Services business. He also held various executive positions at Capital One Financial Corp., McKinsey & Company and GE Aircraft Engines. Mr. Williams was nominated to Kaleidoscope's 40 under 40 (Class of 1997). He is on the Board of Directors for JumpStart Inc. and DANCECleveland and is a Trustee for the Presidents’ Council Foundation. Mr. Williams holds an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business, where he was nominated as a Baker Scholar.

Jacqueline Acho, Ph.D. 
President, The Acho Group

Jackie AchoDr. Acho is President of The Acho Group, a strategy and leadership consulting firm. Prior to founding The Acho Group in 2005, she was a Partner in the Midwest Complex of McKinsey & Company and part of the Growth Strategy and Sales and Marketing leadership groups. Dr. Acho has worked for industrial, scientific, academic, nonprofit, and economic development clients on a variety of issues, with particular focus on growth, strategy, and commercial transformation for nearly 15 years. She received her MA and Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While at MIT, Dr. Acho was awarded the Goodwin Medal for "conspicuously effective teaching by a graduate student."  She also attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, where she earned a bachelor's degree with distinction and highest honors in chemistry. Dr. Acho was named one of the “Top 40 under 40” by Crain’s Cleveland Business magazine, “one of the 500 most influential women in Northeast Ohio” by Northern Ohio Live magazine, and is a founding member of In Counsel with Women. She currently serves on the boards of JumpStart, the National Inventors’ Hall of Fame/Invent Now Kids and the Wright Center for Sensor Systems Engineering. She has served on the board of the Urban League of Greater Cleveland and the advisory boards for Industrial Transport, Inc., the Northeast Ohio Technology Council and the Generation Foundation of Cleveland.

Barbara Brown 
Principal and Co-Founder, BrownFlynn 

Barb Brown

Ms. Brown is the Co-Founder and a Principal of BrownFlynn, a corporate responsibility and sustainability consulting firm. Prior to founding BrownFlynn in 1996, Ms. Brown spent six years with National City Corporation where she served as Co-Vice President and Manager of the financial service company’s corporate communications department with Margie Flynn. Prior to that, she was a Marketing Manager for a multi-million dollar real estate developer and an Account Executive for an advertising firm outside Chicago. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Ms. Brown came to Cleveland by way of her college education at John Carroll University. An internship with the Greater Cleveland Growth Association (Cleveland’s Chamber of Commerce, a.k.a. the Greater Cleveland Partnership) led to her passion for Northeast Ohio and belief in “doing well by doing good” as the Co-Founder of BrownFlynn.  Ms. Brown was honored as a Rainmaker by Northeast Ohio Live magazine, received a Medical Mutual Pillar Award for Community Service and was chosen by the National Association of Women Business Owners as one of the “Top Ten Women Business Owners of Northeast Ohio." Ms. Brown is a member of Leadership Cleveland (class of 2009), a trustee of ParkWorks, a member of the board of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation, and a participant in the Global Reporting Initiative.

Lauren Rich Fine, CFA 
Executive Search Consultant, Howard & O’Brien Associates 

Ms. Fine recently joined Howard & O'Brien Associates, a retained executive search firm. She is also a Practitioner-in-Residence at Kent State University’s School of Journalism & Mass Communication. Prior to her current role, she served as the Director of Research at ContentNext, an organization focused on media related newsletters and conferences. Ms. Fine left Merrill Lynch in April 2007 as a Managing Director in Equity Research. A 19-year veteran, she covered the publishing, information, for-profit education, advertising and online industries. She was a ranked member of the Institutional Investor All-American Research Team for 14 years, holding the number one position for 11 years. Ms. Fine has an MBA from the Stern School of Management and a BA in Psychology/Economics from Tufts University. Ms. Fine is on the Boards of Brand Muscle, the Chautauqua Foundation, the Cleveland Film Society, College Now, Dolan Company (NYSE:DM), iGuiders, In Counsel with Women and Urban Community School (Executive Committee), a non-profit school for low income families in Cleveland. She is on the Advisory Boards of Creative Loafing & MedCity News and the Investment Committee at Laurel School. She has served on the Cleveland Jewish News Board, the Advisory Board of Dix & Eaton, the Leadership Board of the Lerner Research Institute and the Poynter Institute Advisory Board. She also served on committees at Citizens Academy, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Racquet Club, The Gathering Place and Hawken School.

Larry Goddard

Larry GoddardMr. Goddard is President of The Parkland Group, Inc.,  a leading turnaround, performance improvement and interim management organization, based in Cleveland, OH. Mr. Goddard founded The Parkland Group in 1989 and is the inventor of Parkland’s “SOAR to Strategic Excellence™”, a revolutionary one-day diagnostic and benchmarking process that measures the health of businesses and helps them achieve significant improvements in profitability. He has over 30 years management and advisory experience, helping hundreds of organizations throughout North America dramatically improve their performance. Previously, he was President and CEO of WACO International, a national manufacturer and distributor of construction equipment and supplies. Mr. Goddard was also Deputy Chairman and a director of Waco’s publicly traded parent company, Waco Kwikform Ltd. Prior to joining Waco, Mr. Goddard was a supervisor at Price Waterhouse in Canada, and later founded Goddard Franklin Management Consultants, Inc. Mr. Goddard is the author of Corporate Intensive care: Why Businesses Fail And How To Make Them Succeed, and co-author of The Turbocharged Company: Igniting Your Business To Soar Ahead Of The Competition, and Top Down Vision and Bottom Up Management. In addition to serving on the JumpStart board, Mr. Goddard is a board member of NASDAQ traded Energy Focus, Inc., formerly on the board of Oglebay Norton Inc. until its sale in early 2008 and currently serves on numerous advisory and other boards. Mr. Goddard is a member of the World President’s Organization and the Turnaround Management Association. As a recognized industry expert, he is frequently quoted in the media, including The Wall Street Journal.

John W. Harley

Co-Founder and Co-President, FirstPower Group LLC

John HarleyMr. Harley is the Co-Founder and Co-President of FirstPower Group LLC, an industrial manufacturing and equipment company specializing in maintaining older high voltage circuit breakers and compressors used by the electric power industry. Prior to FirstPower Group, he was the Founder and President of J.W. Harley Inc., Founder and President of Tecsonics Inc, and an employee of Ingersoll-Rand Company. Mr. Harley received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and EMBA from the Weatherhead School of Management. He serves on the boards of MAGNET and JumpStart, sits on the Annual Fund committee of The Cleveland Orchestra and is involved with numerous other community organizations and technical committees.

Jim Hickey
President and Founder, Arras Group

Jim HickeyMr. Hickey is the Founder and President of Arras Group, a full-service marketing/communications agency. Arras has been recognized in the Weatherhead 100 eight times, in the Northcoast 99 seven times, and as Agency of the Year by the Northeast Ohio Business Marketing Association. Mr. Hickey is a Northeast Ohio transplant who has set his roots here deeply. He is recognized as an exceptional team builder, a business catalyst and a strong strategist. Prior to founding Arras Group, Mr. Hickey spent several years at Marketing Directions, a small agency in Cleveland that he helped build. He also worked at Hesselbart & Mitten, an Akron advertising agency. Mr. Hickey is a member of the Rainbow Babies and Children’s Leadership Board and was a longtime board member and seven-year Board Chairman of Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. He also sits on a number of for-profit boards including Bonne Bell and Refrigeration Sales Corp. In addition, Mr. Hickey has been selected as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Mr. Hickey has a BA in Marketing from Miami University.

Robert Hurwitz
Partner, The Coral Company

Mr. Hurwitz is a Founder of The Coral Company, which has grown over the last 20 years into a full service real estate development, construction and management firm, developing shopping centers, hospital-affiliated primary care facilities, office buildings and residential communities. Mr. Hurwitz has spent his 46-year career aggressively pursuing his passions in real estate development, retail, distribution and entrepreneurship. In 1969, Mr. Hurwitz founded Incentive Consultants, Inc., a sales incentive company, and in 1979, he co-founded Professional Housewares Distributors, Inc., which became one of the nation's largest housewares and small appliance distributors. In 1987, Mr. Hurwitz co-founded OfficeMax, Inc. As the Founding Chairman and CEO, he led OfficeMax's growth into a national chain of office supply superstores, which was subsequently sold to Kmart. In 1996, Mr. Hurwitz founded Homeplace, Inc. which has grown into a national chain of home furnishings superstores. Since 2001, he has assisted entrepreneurs in developing their ideas and businesses, including Cardinal Commerce, Inc., a leading online authentication service. Mr. Hurwitz currently serves on the Leadership Council of the Seidman Cancer Center at University Hospitals and the Leadership Council of The Cleveland Clinic Neuroscience and Clinical Research Program. He is also Chairman of the Board of the Center of Partnership Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital of Chicago and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Community Federation of Ohio. Mr. Hurwitz received a BA in International Trade from the Bernard Baruch School of CCNY in 1965.

Joseph Jankowski, Ph.D.
Associate Vice President, Technology Management,
Case Western Reserve University

Joseph JankowskiDr. Jankowski is the Case Western Reserve University Associate Vice President for Technology Management. In this capacity, Dr. Jankowski leads the University’s commercialization efforts that stem from the greater than $300 million of annual research activity taking place at the CWRU and its affiliate institutions. Dr. Jankowski is very dedicated to CWRU’s translational efforts and holds leadership roles on the Coulter-CWRU Translation and Innovation Partnership, the Ohio BRCP Center: Targeted Nanoparticles for Imaging and Therapeutics and the School of Medicine High Throughput Screening Program. In addition to Dr. Jankowski’s primary commercialization and translational activities, he sits on the CWRU Conflict of Interest Committee, the Ohio Technology Transfer Officers’ Council, and the UHCMC Research Committee. Dr. Jankowski also serves the University through his active board representation in several CWRU spinoff companies, including Great Lakes Pharmaceuticals, Interventional Imaging, Inc. and Neuros Medical. Previously, Dr. Jankowski was a commercialization officer in the Office of Innovations at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF), a Technology Analyst in the Environmental Technology Commercialization Center at the Battelle Memorial Institute, and a research assistant with the SUNY Research Foundation. Dr. Jankowski holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the State University of New York's College of Environmental Sciences, an M.B.A. from the Weatherhead School of Management and a dual B.S. in Chemical and Environmental Engineering Technologies from the University of Dayton.


Eric Anthony Johnson, Ph.D.
Executive Director, University Park Alliance

Eric Anthony JohnsonDr. Johnson is the Executive Director of University Park Alliance, where he is responsible for overseeing the redevelopment of the 50 blocks surrounding The University of Akron. He recently served as the Real Estate Development Director for the Port of Cleveland, where he was responsible for managing and implementing the redevelopment initiatives for the Port. Dr. Johnson also served as the Real Estate Manager for the City of Charlotte, where he managed a $2.5 billion dollar real estate portfolio, as well as Director of the Office of Housing and Urban Development for the City of Pompano Beach, FL. Dr. Johnson has taught courses in urban development policy, community development theory and practice and urban politics. He has testified before the U.S. Congress Ways and Means Committee on the Renewal Community Initiative, served as a Presidential Management Fellow at HUD and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Real Estate Management Program, the Brookings Institute Emerging Leaders Program, and the JFK School of Government – Harvard Public Trust Leadership Program. Dr. Johnson also holds a certification as an Economic Development Finance Professional and serves on the Urban Land Institute Inner City Council and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and the American Society for Public Administration. Dr. Johnson earned his Ph.D. in Urban Affairs & Public Policy from the University of Delaware. 


Carmen Ortiz-McGhee
Executive Vice President of Sales, Aon Cornerstone Innovative Solutions

Carmen Ortiz-McGheeMs. Ortiz-McGhee is Executive Vice President of Aon Cornerstone Innovative Solutions, a division of Aon, the global risk management, reinsurance and human resources consulting/outsourcing firm. Aon Cornerstone identifies and partners with high-performance, certified minority business enterprises that specialize in risk management, reinsurance and human resources consulting/outsourcing to develop supplier diversity-driven professional services solutions to Aon’s clients worldwide. Previously, Ms. Ortiz-McGee was Vice President, Investor Relations and Business Development for MayfieldGentry Realty Advisors LLC where she developed targeted fundraising strategies to double the firm’s assets under management. Prior to that, Carmen was president of The Marathon Club where she led the organization and its unprecedented network of affluent, diverse, deal-focused professionals comprised of The Executive Leadership Council, the National Association of Investment Companies and New America Alliance. And before that, she engineered programs for a number of non-profit organizations including the New America Alliance, the World Airline Entertainment Association and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Ortiz-McGhee is a passionate advocate for the growth and success of diverse businesses and regularly speaks at conferences focused on the U.S. Emerging Domestic Market, including The U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency events, Hispanic IT Executive Council meetings, the New America Alliance Wall Street Summit and the American Association of Blacks in Energy. She is a board member for mobile data analytics company Votifi.com and an Advisor to the Hispanic IT Executive Council. Ms. Ortiz-McGhee received her BA in Psychology from the University of Virginia.

Amy Millman
Co-Founder and President, Springboard Enterprises, Inc.

Amy MillmanMs. Millman is the Co-Founder and President of Springboard Enterprises, a venture catalyst and national non-profit organization accelerating women's access to the equity markets. As one of the founders, she built an organization that facilitates connections to sources of financial and human capital for women-led emerging-growth enterprises. Prior to Springboard, Ms. Millman served as Executive Director of the National Women's Business Council, a federal commission providing advice and counsel to the President and Congress on issues of importance to women business owners. During her tenure, the Council launched several public and private sector initiatives that increased, measurably, access to capital and market opportunities for women. Ms. Millman began her career working on Capitol Hill and spent 20 years representing corporate, trade association and government interests, including the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Philip Morris Corporation (now Altria); the American Trucking Association and Congressional Quarterly, Inc. She serves on the boards and advisory councils of Enterprising Woman, Purdue University Discovery Park, Women’s Leadership Exchange and received her BA from Carnegie Mellon University and MA from The George Washington University.

Ray T. Leach
Chief Executive Officer, JumpStart Inc.

Ray LeachRay has served as the founding CEO of JumpStart since 2003. Under Ray’s leadership, JumpStart has gained national recognition for its innovative model and economic impact in Northeast Ohio, leading to its recent launch of the JumpStart America Initiative in January 2011. One of the first implementation partners of the Startup America Partnership, Ray is leading JumpStart America’s effort to build public, private, and philanthropic partnerships across the country to develop and grow entrepreneurial ecosystems and transform regional economies. Ray began his career at IBM before founding and bootstrapping two startup companies. Both were sold to Multigraphics Inc. in 1997, after which Ray became Vice President of Sales. In 2000, he founded Capella Investments, Inc., an investment and management consulting firm focused on startup IT companies. Prior to JumpStart, Ray taught at the MIT Sloan School of Management while earning his MBA as a Sloan Fellow. He also served as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence for CommonAngels, Boston’s largest angel investor organization. Ray is a member of the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NACIE), which supports the national innovation strategy by developing policies that foster entrepreneurship. He also serves on the board of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) which has over 400 members and serves as the voice of the United States venture capital community and advocates for policies that encourage innovation and reward long-term investment. Ray also earned a BA in Finance from the University of Akron.

 

Francis Papay, M.D.  
Chairman, Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Institute, Cleveland Clinic

Francis PapayDr. Papay is Chairman of the Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Institute at Cleveland Clinic and has been a member of Cleveland Clinic's professional staff since 1992. He currently serves as Section Head of Craniofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is an Associate Professor of Surgery in Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. As Chairman of the Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Institute, Dr. Papay is designing and establishing a world-class multidisciplinary approach to patient-oriented care relating to complex dermatological diseases, plastic surgical reconstruction, aesthetic surgery and services. He has been recognized as a Top Doc in plastic surgery by Cleveland magazine and Castle Connolly. Dr. Papay served as President of the Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons, Chair of the American Society of Plastic Surgery's Ethics Committee, President of the Plastic Surgery Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Executive Committee Member of the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and Northern Ohio. He has published over 100 scientific papers, abstracts and book chapters and holds five medical device patents. Dr. Papay served as the Board Examiner of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a finalist judge for the collegiate inventors' competition from the National Inventors Hall of Fame and a section reviewer of several plastic surgery scientific journals. Dr. Papay is currently completing his Executive Doctor of Management degree at the Weatherhead School of Management and received his Doctor of Medicine from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. His clinical research interests include utilization of bone substitutes in cranofacial reconstruction, nasal valve function in rhinoplasty, facial plastic surgery and pediatric craniofacial anomalies.

 

Patrick M. Pastore
EVP/Market Leader – Northern Ohio, Corporate Banking Group, PNC Bank

Patrick PastoreMr. Pastore is an Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Banking for Northern Ohio at PNC Bank. Previously, he ran the large corporate segment for Michigan, Northern Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Prior to joining PNC in 2000, Mr. Pastore was a relationship manager in the Wholesale Banking Group of ABN AMRO Bank, covering multinational clients in the Midwest. Prior to ABN AMRO, he worked in the investment banking groups of Parker/Hunter Incorporated and PNC, where he held various positions and was responsible for the execution of investment banking and capital market transactions, including syndications, private placements of debt and equity, IRB financings, M&A engagements, fairness opinions, IPOs, and various financial advisory assignments. Mr. Pastore serves on the Boards of the Cleveland chapters of The Salvation Army and The United Cerebral Palsy. He is a member of Leadership Cleveland (Class of 2011) and holds a BS in Finance from Miami University of Ohio and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business.

R. Louis Schneeberger
Chief Financial Officer, Panther Expedited Services, Inc.

Lou Schneeberger

Mr. Schneeberger serves as CFO of Panther Expedited Services. Prior to that, Mr. Schneeberger was a Partner and Managing Director at private equity firm Knowledge Investment Partners (KIP). Mr. Schneeberger has spent the last several years assisting several private equity firms in an operating capacity, acting as interim CFO at Austin Powder Company and assisting Anderson-DuBose in a major acquisition. Additionally, for more than eight years, Mr. Schneeberger has done strategy consulting with several business startups.  He assisted in forming JumpStart as its Founding Chairperson and led the cleanup process of a Cleveland-based public company, OM Group, resulting in a massive restatement, settlement of class action lawsuits and total compliance with the SEC and the NYSE. Mr. Schneeberger was one of four owners and a director of Olympic Steel during its growth from a small company to a $600+ million public company. He was also Chairman of Royal Appliance from 1995 until its sale in 2003. At the time of sale, Royal was bringing in more than $400 million in sales. Mr. Schneeberger began his career as an employee with Arthur Andersen for 10 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Kent State university.

Ken Semelsberger
Senior Vice President – Finance and Planning, Industrial Sector, Eaton Corporation

Ken SemelsbergerMr. Semelsberger is Senior Vice President, Finance and Planning for the Industrial Sector of Eaton Corporation, a $15.4 billion global diversified power management company. Previously, Mr. Semelsberger was Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Treasury and Vice President, Strategic Planning. He joined Eaton in 1988 as a Senior Financial Analyst and subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility in business development and planning. Before joining Eaton, Mr. Semelsberger was a consultant for Coopers and Lybrand. He holds a BS in Marketing and International Business from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and an MBA from Harvard University. In addition to serving on JumpStart’s board, Mr. Semelsberger serves as a board member of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

Dr. Rachel Talton, Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer, Synergy Marketing Strategy & Research, Inc.

Dr. Talton is CEO of Synergy Marketing Strategy & Research, Inc., a firm that specializes in strategic brand positioning, marketing research, leadership effectiveness and corporate social responsibility. Prior to founding Synergy in 2002, Dr. Talton was Executive Vice President of Marketing Programs, Inc., where she led the Corporate and Business Programs division. In 2008, she designed the Synergy Trust Index™ and TrustTrends™, which rank the most trusted brands in the U.S. and provide executives with critical information to drive consumer loyalty in varying industry environments. In addition to her success as an entrepreneur, Dr. Talton is an award-winning expert and published scholar in the areas of brand trust and employee loyalty. She earned her Doctor of Management from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management in 2010 and focused her research activities on the impact of brand trust, satisfaction and loyalty in dynamic industry environments. She holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from the James Nance College of Business Administration and a B.A. in Psychology from Cleveland State University. Dr. Talton serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Positively Cleveland (The Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland), where she chairs the Marketing Committee. She also serves on the Board of Directors of TeamNEO.


A graduate of the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2005 and the Cleveland Bridge Builders Class of 2002, Dr. Talton sits on the Development committee of the JumpStart board.

Mr. Teter is Vice President and General Manager - Wholesale for Moen Inc. in North Olmsted, OH, the leading North American maker of fashion plumbing and accessories. Prior to his current position, he was VP and General Manager of Moen's Retail business, VP of Product Marketing and VP of Channel Marketing. Before that, Mr. Teter was Senior Vice President of North American Sales & Marketing for Paperpak Products Inc. in Charlotte, NC. And before that, he was Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Florida Tile Industries in Lakeland, FL, and Vice President of Sales at NuTone Inc. in Cincinnati. He started his sales and marketing career at Cincinnati's Procter & Gamble, rising to Category Account Executive. Mr. Teter holds a B.S.B.A. in Management from John Carroll University and graduated from the Williams PLC Senior Management Programme at Templeton College in Oxford, England. Previously he was on the board of advisors for City of Hope and board president of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Northeast Ohio chapter.
