JumpStart’s funding model is based on a public/private partnership. For every dollar JumpStart receives from private sources, our team looks to secure matching funding from public sources (state and federal government) to achieve greater leverage and impact from every gift.

JumpStart’s public supporters, such as the State of Ohio’s Third Frontier Project, often look for extensive local and regional support from private organizations and community members before considering a donation. Having “skin in the game” demonstrates the commitment of the region’s citizens and leadership to its own economic revitalization, and is a powerful signal in encouraging public partnership.

Consequently, the amount of funding we get from private sources is directly proportional to the funding received from government sources and greatly increases our scope of our influence, power and ability to help high potential companies and entrepreneurs grow and create a more prosperous future for Northeast Ohio’s citizens. By getting more investment from the community, we strive to get more investment for the community.

The Burton D. Morgan Foundation Challenge

The Burton D. Morgan Foundation has set a new and exciting challenge for JumpStart and for current and potential investors and funding entities. Over the next three years, the Foundation will provide JumpStart up to $3 million for investments and operations to help continue the mission to foster entrepreneurial development and the entrepreneurial spirit in Northeast Ohio.

Each time money is awarded, the Burton D. Morgan Foundation will match that amount, dollar for dollar, doubling the impact. The overall implication of this challenge could potentially mean a $6 million boost for the region.

“The extraordinary amount of our JumpStart Gift reflects both the high regard we have for this organization and the close correlation between its mission of accelerating the growth of development of high potential, early-stage businesses and our mission of strengthening the free enterprise system by investing in organizations and institutions that foster the entrepreneurial spirit.”

Ways to Support JumpStart

JumpStart has many meaningful opportunities to support your charitable giving interests. Opportunities are available for designating special gifts, unrestricted giving and partnering with JumpStart to support charitable giving.

General Unrestricted Fund:

As the most flexible of funds for use by JumpStart, an unrestricted gift allows JumpStart management to effectively respond to the changing needs of the entrepreneurial community. These critical resources provide the vital day-to-day support for program and/or investment priorities.

Opportunities are available to establish endowed positions and special programs. Your gift to JumpStart's General Fund provides critical resources to support the intensive one-on-one business acceleration services to our client entrepreneurs.

JumpStart Investment Fund:

Gifts to this fund directly support investment into JumpStart’s portfolio companies. 100% of any returns on dollars invested by JumpStart are reinvested in new entrepreneurial endeavors throughout the region.

Since JumpStart does not have any limited partners, only grantors whose focus is on economic development in Northeast Ohio, your gift to the investment fund has the potential to provide a legacy spanning multiple decades and companies. This charitable gift opportunity provides a unique way to give back to your community.

Marketing/Sponsorship Programs:

JumpStart works to build greater appreciation of the importance of entrepreneurship to our regional economy. To do so, JumpStart supports social networks that will increase the number of entrepreneurial opportunities.

Donating to this fund will support the annual operations of JumpStart marketing events, which may include the following: invitation-only events, large-scale (public) events, speakers series, research partnerships and general marketing & communications activities. These span all of JumpStart’s education, outreach and social networking activities.
