Extending the Runway: Building Better Boards
Date: Thursday, February 25, 2010
Location: Corporate College East, Cleveland
JumpStart is pleased to announce that Dave Berkus, who brings decades of experience as a venture capitalist and technology entrepreneur, will lead the next Growing Bright Ideas seminar with a discussion on startup governance.
Boards are a strategic advantage and important tool to accelerate strategy, sales, and fundraising at early-stage companies. Board members serve as mentors, sounding boards, and even that extra set of hands when needed – an asset any startup would be happy to have.
Based in California, Dave's expertise and experience make him a widely in-demand speaker around the world, especially on topics related to early-stage corporate governance and startup boards. Dave will speak specifically to this topic at our afternoon session.
Topics for discussion include:
- Finding and interviewing prospective board members
- Associated benefits and risks with creating a board
- Advisors vs. governance
- Experience of the board members in relation to your business stage
- Balance of finance, operational, and industry expertise
- Legal responsibilities of the board
- And so much more...
We are hosting this seminar at Corporate College East because it will occur immediately after the Ohio Venture Association's Venture Capital Summit V. Please consider attending OVA's VC Summit and then join JumpStart and Dave Berkus for our Growing Bright Ideas event immediately afterward. Visit OVA's website for more info as it becomes available.
