Michael Lang

A venture partner focusing on healthcare companies, Michael’s role is to assess new investments and work with JumpStart’s existing portfolio companies to enhance their success.


Michael brings 30 years of executive experience in the medical devices industry. He has a rich background in general management, strategic business development, fundraising, marketing, product development, and biomedical engineering. Michael led the commercialization of numerous medical devices including cardiovascular catheters, laparoscopic instruments for abdominal and thoracic surgery, and specialty biomaterials, and holds several patents in these technologies. He also has extensive experience in assessing new products and managing new product development portfolios, as well as licensing and transactional experience having raised venture investment for multiple new ventures.


Most recently, Michael served as President of Galt Medical, a Dallas, Texas-based cardiovascular products company where he led company restructuring. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Business Development at BioEnterprise in Cleveland, Ohio where he led the startup and growth of several early stage firms. Michael was Division General Manager at Avery Dennison Medical in the early 2000s where he successfully led a major restructuring and launched a new venture. He also played key roles in the start of a venture capital-funded wound healing company, Gliatech, leading the development of the company’s novel biomaterial therapy. From 1988 to 1995 he was Product Manager at Ethicon Division of Johnson & Johnson where he developed novel laparoscopic procedures and products.


Michael holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University.
